I started my first quilt about 2 1/2 years ago and I finally finished it! Woo-hoo!! It started off as a friendship quilt. There were 12 of us in the group. We each had a different star pattern and a box with our own fabric. Every 2 weeks, we rotated our box of fabric and made our pattern using someone else's fabric. At the end, we each had 12 different star blocks. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with my blocks so they kinda sat in my box for a while. Then Katie was born and they sat for quite a bit longer. Last summer, I finally decided that I wanted to make it into a quilt to use for our bed, our king-size bed! So I met with Rachel, who was the one that set up the friendship quilt swap, and she helped me plan out a king size quilt top. I ended up making 13 more blocks-for a total of 25-and set it diagonally to make it even bigger. Fortunately, I was able to find a few of the same fabrics for the borders through
etsy and then used my scraps for the binding and for a strip on the back too. I love how it turned out and have already started on my next one:)

ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely stunning! Your first quilt? I'm so impressed!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your assistants are adorable. :) My first quilt does not look anywhere near to great.
ReplyDeleteI have made 3 king size quilts in the past 15 years. Love my bed until it is time to make another
large quilt. lol
I think I'll make a Swoon quilt with the huge blocks. I'll make one block first to see if I can make
enough. :)
Did you do the machine or hand quilting as well?
